2 runners die from “medical emergencies” during Monumental Marathon

INDIANAPOLIS – Two runners in the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon died after suffering “medical emergencies,” organizers said Saturday.

According to Beyond Monumental, the organizers behind the race, the runners suffered “unrelated medical emergencies” and were transported to local hospitals.

Organizers said their on-site medical team and local first responders provided “immediate and coordinated care” to the participants. Organizers are working closely with medical and public safety officials and said they “will continue to offer their full support.”

“Participant safety is our top priority”, Beyond Monumental said in a statement. “We are profoundly grateful to the medical professionals and emergency personnel who responded with such care and professionalism.”

This is a developing story. It will be updated when new information has been made available.
