Man arrested, accused of beating a juvenile in Assumption Parish

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man accused of attacking a juvenile in an October incident.

Sheriff Leland Falcon said deputies responded to a home after reports of a fight. The altercation involved a juvenile and a suspect, Oliver John Martin, 39. The incident reportedly occurred at a public facility.

Deputies spoke with the victim and the victim’s parents, who said a group of juveniles had attempted to interact with Martin while he was asleep. That night, the group saw Martin again. He allegedly assaulted a juvenile, who needed medical help.

Following an investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Martin. The Gretna Police Department arrested him on Nov. 4 on unrelated charges before transferring him to the Assumption Parish Detention Center, where he was booked on a charge of second-degree battery.
