Final Day for KTAB, KRBC, BigCountryHomepage.com food drive

(KTAB/KRBC) – KTAB, KRBC, Telemundo Abilene, and BigCountryHomepage.com are continuing their community food drive in partnership with Hardin-Simmons University, Wylie ISD, and United Supermarkets through the close of business Friday, November 7.

The drive benefits the Food Bank of West Central Texas, which will receive 100% of all donations.

Where to Donate

Donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the following public locations:

  • Hardin-Simmons University — Ellis Engagement Center, 2211 Cedar St.
  • Wylie ISD — Administrative Building, 6251 Buffalo Gap Rd.
  • United Supermarkets and Market Street — All Abilene locations (North Willis, Judge Ely, South 14th, and Market Street on Buffalo Gap Rd.)

QR codes linking directly to donation options are available on bins at each site.

Meeting an Urgent Need

The drive comes at a crucial time as food insecurity continues to affect many families in the Abilene area, a situation made worse by the ongoing government shutdown.

Brandon Forrest, Executive Director of the Food Bank of West Central Texas, said:

“We are thrilled, as every can counts right now. Record food demand prior to the shutdown—combined with furloughs, SNAP delays, and holiday needs—means our network is working overtime to meet the demand. We’re so grateful for your food drive effort!”

Patrick Dembach, Director of Operations for the Food Bank, added:

“The food bank will share 100% of donated food with neighbors and partner agencies across the 13-county service area of the Food Bank of West Central Texas.”

At Hardin-Simmons University, Laurin Kocurek, Communications and Content Strategy Specialist, reported that the bin there was filled early Thursday morning and has already been replaced.

Community Spirit on Display

Once again, the people of Abilene and the Big Country are showing their generosity and compassion. The spirit of sharing and supporting one another remains strong as neighbors continue to lend a helping hand when the need arises.
