Usually it’s a Friday night where we see stadiums packed with fans, but Thursday night in Haughton, the stands were packed to see their former quarterback come home.
From his entrance featuring fireworks, to the hype video of him throughout his football career, to his speech thanking the community, there was one thing that was made clear, Prescott is forever a Haughton Buccaneer.
“It was an amazing blessing. Something I don’t take for granted. Just being from here, understanding how hard these people love, who these people are and that’s why I told them I am from Haughton. And I’m so proud to to be a buccaneer.”
Prescott last laced up his cleats for Haughton in 2010, when he took them to the only undefeated regular season in their school’s history.
The Cowboys star donated one million dollars to his alma mater. The school used that money to build one of the largest scoreboards in the state of Louisiana and put money into their weight room.
“This was very, very special. Can’t thank everyone here who made this possible enough, from the video to to the words spoke, all the different moments where it was very special,” Prescott said. “I’m super thankful just to have this moment, to have it with my family and, to be able to give this to Haughton.”
Prescott still holds records at Haughton, including passing (80) and rushing (37) touchdowns in a career and passing touchdowns in a single year (39), which he accomplished in his final season.
