Chardia Lightfoot, 35, was arraigned on the charge, a second-degree felony, Wednesday in municipal court. She is presently in the Mahoning County jail. Her bond was set at $25,000 by Magistrate Donna McCollum.
She is expected to have a preliminary hearing Nov. 12.
Reports said police were called about 7:10 p.m. to a home on Ellenwood Avenue for a fight between a man and a woman, and when they arrived, a man at the home said Lightfoot attacked him with an ax and a vase. The man had injuries to his nose, face and forehead and was examined by paramedics but refused to be taken to the hospital, reports said.
Reports said the man told police Lightfoot was in a nearby car, but officers did not find her there. Instead, she was found hiding in the woods and came out without incident, reports said.
Lightfoot told police she was attacked and was defending herself, reports said. Reports said she had no visible injuries, but her pants were covered in blood.
Police found an ax in the living room with blood on the handle, reports said. It was taken as evidence.
