On Feb. 27, around 7 p.m., officials saw a tan Chevrolet Malibu commit a traffic violation, according to court records. Officers said they were surveilling the suspect on West State Street before the violation.
Authorities pulled the Malibu over at Central and School Street and saw cannabis in a plastic bag on the passenger’s seat.
Lightfoot was ordered out of the vehicle but started running from deputies shortly after exiting the car, authorities reported.
Officials eventually took him into custody in the 1400 block of School Street. Deputies found a handgun, cannabis and psilocybin mushrooms inside a crossbody bag the suspect was wearing.
Officers determined the handgun was stolen.
Lightfoot has been previously convicted of possessing a machine gun and intent to distribute a controlled substance, according to court documents.
He is charged with possession of a firearm without a FOID card, felon possession of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, resisting an officer, armed violence, manufacturing and delivering cannabis and possession of psilocybin.
