Texas is one of the worst states for workers, according to data

DALLAS (KDAF) — A new study reveals which US states are the best and worst to work in, with Texas at the bottom of the ranking.

Analytics engine, Exasol, analyzed the most recent data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, United States Census Bureau, National Low Income Housing Coalition, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) to assess employment across the United States. 

Idaho and Texas complete the bottom five states, with scores of 21.24 and 22.18 out of 100, respectively. Idaho has the worst quit rate in the US, at 3.7%, while Texans work the longest hours in the country, averaging 36.3 hours per week. Both states have no state-mandated paid family leave or sick leave policies.

A total of 10 factors were analyzed for each state, including but not limited to: average commute times for drivers, minimum hourly wages, quit rates, paid family and medical leave policies and fatal workplace injury rates. 

Each state was given an overall score out of 100 based on its performance across these factors, which determined the ranking.

Topping the list as the best state to work in is Connecticut, with a score of 86.18 out of 100. The state leads the nation in wages, income and low worker quit rates. Connecticut’s minimum hourly wage of $15.69 is among the highest in the country, while the average monthly income after tax is $6,568, which is 21.4% higher than the national average of $5,162. 

Massachusetts follows closely in second place, with a score of82.18 out of 100. The state has strong work retention, with just a 1.3% work quit rate, which is the lowest in the study, as well as a high monthly income after tax, at an average of $6,563.
