OPELOUSAS, La. (
KLFY) — St. Landry Parish Government has announced its decision to discontinue the annual BBQ Festival.
Officials said in a news release that the lack of availability of rides and the escalating costs associated with organizing the event were the reasons for discontinuing the festival.
“Despite our best efforts to secure resources and manage expenses, it is no longer financially feasible to continue operating the festival at the level of quality and safety our community deserves,” the release read.
The 2025 festival was scheduled for June 20-22. It was held anually at the Yambilee Festival Grounds in Opelousas.
Over the years, the event had become a cherished tradition, so the decision was not made lightly, according to St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard.
“We want to sincerely thank all of the sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and attendees who have supported the BBQ Festival over the years,” Bellard said. “While we’re disappointed to discontinue the event, we remain committed to finding new ways to bring our community together.”
Organizers said they remain dedicated to exploring future opportunities for community events that “celebrate the spirit of St. Landry Parish.”
