Hear musical theater numbers from ‘Wicked’ and more from Centenary Opera

The Centenary Opera and Camerata will perform musical theater numbers from “Cinderella,” “Rent,” “West Side Story,” “Wicked,” and other notable works.

“As the leader of Centenary Camerata, my goals are always centered around student outcomes and their intellectual and artistic development,” said Dr. Cory Wikan, Dean of the Hurley School of Music and Associate Professor of Music. “Our recent collaboration with Opera Centenary has been both a tremendous pleasure and a meaningful educational opportunity. It allows our students to engage deeply with the demands of ensemble singing on stage – an experience that challenges them to refine the ability to move, act, and sing simultaneously.”

Two performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 7, and Saturday, November 8, in Centenary’s Anderson Auditorium.

“We are committed to immersing our students in a wide range of musical styles and genres,” said Dr. Briana Sosenheimer. “This is the third Scenes program we’ve explored as Opera Centenary. We began with love songs, then moved into recontextualized staging, and now we’re focusing on musical theater storytelling.”
