California woman behind ‘Marry Lisa’ billboards gets flood of applications

(KRON) — A California woman who launched a billboard campaign in an effort to land her “Mr. Right” has received a flood of applicants, with men from as far away as Brazil applying to become her spouse.

Lisa Catalano, the woman behind the “Marry Lisa” billboards that have popped up recently along Highway 101 in the Bay Area, spoke to Nexstar’s KRON about her search for love.

“I just want to meet somebody,” she said. “And I was just not having any luck any other way.”

Catalano’s billboards, which are running along the freeway from Santa Clara and San Francisco, have raised eyebrows, and apparently, interest. She told NewsNation she received more than 3,800 applications between Sept. 24 and Oct. 15.

While the flood of applications may sound like good news for Catalano, she said the majority of those who have applied are not interested in getting married or having kids, which she called “something that’s really important to me.”

On her website, marrylisa.com, Catalano has been very specific about the kind of man she’s looking for: someone between their 30s and 50s in age. Unfortunately, she said a lot of the men who are applying are in their 20s, 60s, or 70s, which is another dealbreaker for her.

Catalano was previously engaged to a long-term boyfriend, but tragedy struck when he passed away from a terminal illness in late 2023.

Catalano shared recent analytics for her website with KRON. On a single day, she received over 27,000 unique visitors to marrylisa.com and over 127,000 page views. All that interest, she said, has led to about 350 applications from eligible men who meet her criteria.

At last report, she’s still working her way through reviewing their applications.

“I hope that this is a great story that we can tell our future children,” she said.
