SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS) — The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a resurfacing phone scam targeting families of inmates at the Caddo Correctional Center.

Investigators say scammers are posing as representatives from companies that provide ankle-monitoring systems. They are contacting relatives of inmates, claiming that paying a fee for an ankle monitor will secure their loved one’s release from jail.

Authorities stress that this information is false. There is no fee required until an ankle-monitoring device is officially placed on an individual; payments are handled directly between the inmate’s attorney and the judicial system.

The Sheriff’s Office says multiple people have already been targeted. Residents who receive such calls are urged to hang up immediately and avoid sending money or sharing personal information.

Anyone who suspects they may have been contacted by these scammers should call the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 318-675-2170.
