BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A man accused of starting a St. George house fire a few months ago was arrested Tuesday.

The St. George Fire Protection District (SGFPD) identified the suspect as Stan Granier, 54. He was charged with arson with intent to defraud and aggravated arson.

Firefighters responded to Pecue Lane before 4 a.m. Aug. 11, where a two-story home was on fire. No injuries were reported. Investigators found that Granier allegedly set fire to the home with the intention of getting insurance money.

“Any act of arson not only endangers property, it puts our firefighters and the community at risk,” said SGFPD Fire Chief Gerard Tarleton. “We are grateful for the teamwork and diligence that led to this arrest.”
