Woman charged in Luzerne County hit-and-run, accused of seriously injuring motorcyclist
BEECH MOUNTAIN LAKES – A Drums woman is facing felony charges, accused of striking a motorcyclist while intoxicated and fleeing the scene.
Shannon L. Dietrich, 44, of Drums, was arrested Sunday on charges of felony accidents involving personal injury, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, among other charges.
According to Butler Township (Luzerne County) Police, officers were called to Edge Rock Drive in the Beech Mountain Lakes development around 10:40pm Saturday evening.
A motorcycle, driven by Jonathan Wassaff-Estevez, 23, of Drums, was turning into a driveway when police say he was struck from behind by an SUV.
The bike was dragged 50 feet by the SUV before it became dislodged. The SUV then fled the scene.
Police said Wassaff-Estevez was seriously injured in the incident and taken to an area trauma center.
Witnesses provided a description of the SUV and video surveillance helped locate the vehicle at Dietrich’s home.
Officers said she told them she thought she hit a deer, though she showed signs of intoxication. She was arraigned and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
