Police: Man accused of pointing gun during road-rage incident on I-69

Written from Court Document

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Nov. 3, 2025 — A 33-year-old man was arrested after allegedly pointing a handgun at people in another vehicle during a road-rage encounter before being stopped on northbound I-69, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office wrote that around Oct. 25, a caller reported a silver Honda Civic tailgating their vehicle near South Old State Road 37 and State Road 37. As the Civic pulled alongside, the driver “pulled a black semi-auto handgun … and pointed it at them,” the affidavit states. The vehicle occupants said the gun was aimed at them; the driver said it was pointed at their head.

A deputy from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Officer later stopped a matching Civic on I-69 near the 125-mile marker. The driver, Jonathan Gibson (born Feb. 10, 1992), acknowledged a firearm was in the center console but denied brandishing it, according to the affidavit. Deputies recovered a Smith & Wesson Shield 9mm with a loaded magazine and no round chambered.

Gibson was booked into the Monroe County Jail on a preliminary charge of pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony. Gibson told deputies he had been driving from Shoals, Indiana and denied any road-rage incident, the affidavit says.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
