New interim Millcreek mayor selected during city council meeting

MILLCREEK, Utah (ABC4) — Cheri Jackson, a Millcreek City Councilmember, has been selected as the new Millcreek mayor, and she is set to complete the rest of the current mayor’s term.

In September, Millcreek’s first and current mayor Jeff Silvestrini announced his plans to retire.

Silvestrini said that he hoped to spend more time with his family and cited his personal health issues, including leukemia.

Silvestrini’s tenure will end November 10, 2025. During a city council meeting held on November 3, 2025, Cheri Jackson was unanimously chosen as his replacement. She will complete the remaining two years of Silvestrini’s term.

Cheri Jackson was one of five candidates competing for the position, alongside M. Jamie Walker, M. Gardner Reid, Jacob Richardson, and Curtis A. Larsen. As a current councilmember, Cheri Jackson was excluded from voting with the council.

All of her colleagues on the council voted for Jackson after public interviews of all candidates.

“I’ve had nine years of experience working with Cheri Jackson, and I know she has always been engaged and active not only as a councilmember for her district, but for the whole city,” said Mayor Silvestrini, “I have full confidence that Cheri is the best candidate to preserve the culture in City Hall to serve well the public, but also to continue to execute on the vision that we have outlined since incorporation.”

Reportedly, Jackson was born and raised in Millcreek and previously received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Brigham Young University and a Master of Public Administration in Utah Valley University.

Jackson has acted as Millcreek’s City Treasurer and as a representative on the Unified Fire Authority and Unified Fire Service Area Boards, according to the Millcreek City Government. She has also worked with the Millcreek Emergency Resiliency Committee, and the Millcreek Miracle Business Committee, among others.

“Serving Millcreek has been an extraordinary honor,” Mayor-Elect Jackson said. “I look forward to continuing this work as your new mayor – ensuring our city remains a thriving, welcoming, and resilient community,” she said.
