Millcreek's first and current mayor announces retirement
MILLCREEK, Utah (ABC4) — Jeff Silvestrini, the first and current mayor of Millcreek, has announced his plans to retire.
Today, the Millcreek Mayor announced his plans to retire, effective November 10, 2025. Jeff Silvestrini, 71, has served as Millcreek’s mayor since the city’s official incorporation in December 2016.
In his public statement, Silvestrini stated that he hoped to spend more time with his family. He said, “After nearly a decade in this position, I realize it is time for me to do what will make Leslie and me the happiest.”
Silvestrini also cited personal health issues as another reason for his retirement. He said, “I needed two surgeries recently, and I learned that I also have leukemia and a ‘hopefully’ benign pancreatic tumor.”
During his tenure, Silvestrini helped oversee the development of the Millcreek Common City Center. He also was recognized as Utah’s “Best of State Mayor” in 2021.

In a city council meeting, Silvestrini discussed the many projects that Millcreek worked on during his time as mayor.
“It has been the honor of my life to serve as Millcreek’s first mayor and I have very much enjoyed my time in this office,” Silvestrini said, “I am also very proud of what we have been able to accomplish in nine years as a new city.”
He also referenced the Millcreek Promise Program, which is meant to help mitigate housing and homelessness issues within the city.
Silvestrini thanked his colleagues and the public for their collaboration and support during his three terms as mayor, in addition to advising his predecessor to, “Be bold, continue to cultivate, and seize opportunities when they arise…Be a problem solver and not a bureaucrat.”
Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson also provided a statement on Silvestrini’s retirement. The statement reads:
I am incredibly grateful for Mayor Silvestrini’s nearly ten years of public service. As the first mayor of Millcreek City, he has shown us what it takes to build and maintain community. His unwavering commitment to the rights and needs of residents in Millcreek and throughout the county is beyond commendable.
Mayor Silvestrini has been an exceptional partner to Salt Lake County, an extraordinary example to elected officials around the county and the state, and a good friend.
As he leaves his post to focus on health and family, I wish them all the very best and I thank him, sincerely, for making Millcreek City and Salt Lake County a better place.”
