MAMOU, La. (KLFY) — A Mamou activist has been extradited back to Evangline Parish after previously being held in custody by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Jail records show Rufus Searile, 56, is charged with intimidating witnesses, computer-aided solicitation of a minor, indecent behavior with juveniles, child grooming/indecent visual depiction of a minor and failure to appear.

Searile was initially arrested in September in connection with an incident involving Mamou City Councilman Derrell Thomas. In the incident, Thomas claimed Searile was trespassing on his property, and had been following him, taking pictures of him and his family and then posting them on social media. As a result, Searile would be charged with public intimidation, stalking and criminal trespass.

Searile’s bond is currently set to $240,000.00. This story will be updated as more information is released.
