Crews respond to reported plane crash near Louisville airport
According to Louisville Metro Police (LMPD), multiple agencies are responding to a reported plane crash near the area. LMPD says injuries are reported and the scene remains active with fire and debris.
According to the FAA on Facebook, UPS Flight 2976 crashed around 5:15 p.m. after departing from the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on route to Honolulu.
A shelter-in-place was issued after 5:30 p.m. for everything within 5 miles of the airport. An updated alert at 6:04 p.m. said the shelter in place had been expanded to include all areas north of the airport all the way to the Ohio River.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has commented on the crash on Facebook:
“Kentucky, we are aware of a reported plane crash near Louisville International Airport. First responders are onsite, and we will share more information as available. Please pray for the pilots, crew and everyone affected. We will share more soon.”
“The situation is serious. Please pray for the families affected. I’m headed to Louisville now.”
