Polls opened at 7 a.m., including at the Columbus Public Library, where a steady stream of voters arrived early to cast their ballots.

Many said the election may not draw large crowds, but it has major implications for household budgets.

“I feel this is important in order to have a right to speak about certain things. I’m going to let my vote do the speaking for me,” one voter said. “I don’t have a right to say anything if I don’t vote.”

Another voter pointed out the everyday impact of the PSC. “This election is for most of what governs our utility bills. So that’s important to our everyday lives, where every four years are the higher officials that don’t necessarily interact with our daily life,” they said.

All registered Georgia voters are eligible to vote in both PSC races.
