FORT WORTH, Texas (WNTZ) – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women’s basketball team came up short Saturday night, falling 61–56 to Texas Wesleyan in a tightly contested road matchup.

Sydney Person led the Generals (0–2) in scoring for the second straight game, finishing with 19 points on 50 percent shooting. McKayla Price and Justice Young added nine points apiece, with Young also pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Rams (3–1) were paced by Naia Richardson, who scored 15 points, and Kameryn Phillips, who added 14.

“The team did a better job of controlling the tempo,” LSUA head coach Billy Perkins said. “I’m very proud of our effort and rebounding.”

Texas Wesleyan led narrowly through most of the game, holding a 31–26 halftime advantage. The Generals fought back in the third quarter, outscoring the Rams 19–14 to tie the game heading into the fourth.

Midway through the final period, Texas Wesleyan pulled ahead 51–47 before Person and Courtlynn Rideau hit back-to-back jumpers to even the score. The teams traded buckets down the stretch, but the Rams capitalized on free throws and late baskets to secure the win.

A layup from Kelly Norris cut the deficit to 57–56 with under three minutes remaining, but it proved to be LSUA’s final score as Texas Wesleyan held on in the closing moments.

The Generals will continue their early-season road stretch next week, visiting Loyola University New Orleans on Thursday before facing the University of Mobile on Saturday.
