The program will provide grants to internet providers working to restore service in the 39 counties hit hardest by the storm.
“We are working hard to rebuild western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene, and that includes making sure folks have access to high-speed internet services,” Governor Stein said in a released statement. “With these investments, western North Carolinians can stay connected and more easily get back on their feet – whether seeking resources, applying for a job online, starting a business, or going to school.”
The initiative follows legislation signed in August 2025, allocating funds to restore and strengthen internet access in storm-damaged areas.
