Thao to be released MondayThe former MPD officer has been serving his time in federal prison and will remain under supervision in Minnesota.
One of the former Minneapolis police officers convicted for aiding in the killing of George Floyd is scheduled to be released from prison on Monday.
Tou Thao, 39, has been incarcerated at a federal prison in Kentucky since being convicted of violating Floyd’s civil rights as well as aiding and abetting manslaughter.
He’s served his state and federal sentences at the same time and is now set to be freed.

The Minnesota Department of Corrections confirmed to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that Thao’s federal time expired in September but he remained in federal prison until Monday to finish out the time on his state sentence.
Once freed, he’ll be under state and federal supervision for the next two years.
Thao is the last of the three officers charged with aiding Derek Chauvin in Floyd’s killing to be released. Chauvin remains in custody at a federal facility in Texas and isn’t due for release until late in 2037.
