The new initiative seeks to connect students and local neighborhoods with nature. The first-ever Nature Campus will be established at J.S. Clark Elementary School, but volunteers are needed to help plant 175 native and fruit trees, transforming the school into an environmental learning space.
The new Nature Campus initiative aims to reduce flooding, improve stormwater drainage, increase access to fresh food through fruit-bearing trees, and protect the environment with native species that support local ecosystems.
“J.S. Clark has always been a frontrunner in teaching environmental education through hands-on growing projects and gardening programs,” said Lauren Jones, Executive Director of Shreveport Green. “Launching the Nature Campus Initiative is a natural next step that builds on the incredible work JS Clark has accomplished over the past decade.”
The community project is scheduled from November 3 to 8. The main volunteer day will take place on Saturday, November 8, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Everyone of all ages is invited to participate.
