Taylor Broussard has been booked into the St. Landry Parish jail on charges of first degree murder, cruelty to juveniles and second degree battery, authorities said.
Broussard and the baby’s mother, Kaylee Fontenot, are accused of severe neglect and physical abuse. Fontenot was taken into custody earlier.
An autopsy revealed extreme dehydration and malnourishment, broken rib bones, some showing signs of healing, and a severed lower spine, resulting in internal bleeding and ultimately, death, officials said.
Officers said they responded to a medical emergency Oct. 25 in the 200 block of N. Liberty Street, where they found the infant girl not breathing. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bond details were not released. The investigation remains ongoing, officials said.
