Three charged in attempt to smuggle contraband into St. Martin Parish jail
ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY) — Three people have been arrested in connection with smuggling contraband into St. Martin Parish jail, authorities said.

Colasha Nalsha Joseph, Antonio Potier and Javien Demouchet are all charged with principal to taking contraband to a state-owned hospital, attempted contraband in a penal institution and criminal conspiracy.

The investigation began when an inmate at the jail, Potier, 28, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of an illness. While at the hospital, Joseph, 20, of Lafayette, attempted to drop off a package containing illegal drugs in a restroom, according to St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies recovered the contraband. As the investigation continued, a third suspect was identified as another inmate, Demouchet, 32.

The investigation remains ongoing.
