'This is some crazy, crazy technology': Tesla could demo flying car before end of year, Musk teases
In the podcast, Rogan asks Musk if the company is still working on a new edition of its Roadster.
“Yes. We’re getting close to demonstrating the prototype,” Musk said. “One thing I can guarantee is that this product demo will be unforgettable.”
Rogan pushed Musk to give more details on the project. “Can you say more? What do you mean?” he asked.
“My friend Peter Thiel once reflected that the future was supposed to have flying cars but we don’t have flying cars,” Musk said. “… I think if Peter wants a flying car, he should be able to buy one.”
Rogan asked Musk if the car will have retractable wings. However, Musk revealed few details about the design.
“I can’t do the unveil’ before the unveil’,” he said. “I think it has a shot at being the most memorable product unveil ever. It has a shot.”
Musk said the he hopes to debut the car by the end of the year or within “a couple of months.”
“We need to make sure that it works,” he said. “This is some crazy, crazy technology we got in this car. Crazy technology. Crazy-crazy.”
Musk admitted that the Roadster design will be different from what the company previously announced.
“Is it even a car? I’m not sure,” Musk said, pouring himself a cup of coffee. “It looks like a car. Let’s just put it this way, it’s crazier than anything James Bond … if you took all the James Bond cars and combined them, it’s crazier than that.”
Musk ended the discussion by inviting Rogan to check out the car shortly before its unveiling.
“100%,” Rogan responded. “Yeah, let’s go.”
