Multiple San Jose apartments, vehicles burn in overnight fire
The fire broke out around 11 p.m. near an apartment complex at 918 Del Mar Avenue, south of Interstate 280, according to the San Jose Fire Department. Three vehicles in the complex’s carport were completely destroyed by the intense flames.
The flames moved to the nine-unit apartment building on Del Mar and another nine-unit building on Marlboro Court. A third building, located on Del Mar Avenue, also sustained exterior damage due to the heat.
The fires were knocked down by 12:08 a.m. Friday and under control by 12:40 a.m., SJFD said.
All nine apartments in the Del Mar building were deemed uninhabitable due to the damage, and a single unit in the Marlboro building was destroyed. Residents of unaffected units were allowed to return home.
A total of 10 people were displaced from the burned units, fire officials said. The American Red Cross responded to assist with housing.
No injuries were reported to any of the residents or firefighters.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the fire department’s arson unit.
