Niederhauser will retire on Dec. 5. Clancy’s appointment is effective March 9, 2026, after his legislative service concludes.
“Rep. Clancy knows the work on the ground and at the policy table, and that mix will sharpen coordination and results,” said Gov. Cox. “Building on the foundation Wayne Niederhauser laid, we will strengthen Utah`s response and help more Utahns find stability.”
Currently, Clancy represents House District 60. The governor’s office shared that since his election at age 25, Clancy has worked on homelessness, public safety, re-entry and drug policy. He is the chair of the House Ethics Committee.
Clancy also serves as a detective with the Provo Police Department. According to the governor’s office, he has received the department`s Medal of Distinction and the Baker Award for Excellence.
Prior to elected office, Clancy helped launch Project Safe Neighborhoods Salt Lake City. Additionally, he collaborated with the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve,” said Clancy. “Utah does best when we work together with clear goals and real accountability. My focus is on coordination that helps people move forward with dignity.”
