FMOL Health donates $200K to help local food pantries in Mississippi and Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, La. (KLFY) — The health system that runs Our Lady of Lourdes hospitals in Lafayette is helping feed some of those affected by the lack of federal SNAP benefits.

FMOL Health has announced a $200,000 donation to help combat food insecurity in both Mississippi and Louisiana. The contribution will be divided equally, with $100,000 supporting food banks in Mississippi and $100,000 benefiting food pantries in Louisiana.

FMOL Health is a non-profit organization sponsored by the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady. The system’s nine main campus hospitals include Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Lafayette, as well as St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Our Lady of the Lake St. Elizabeth in Gonzales, Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, Our Lady of the Angels in Bogalusa and St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi

The Louisiana donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar by First Lady Sharon Landry’s Love One Louisiana Foundation, according to E.J. Kuiper, President and CEO of FMOL Health.

“Our healing ministry goes beyond the walls of our hospitals, reaching into the heart of our communities,” Kuiper said. “By providing critical nutrition resources, we uphold our mission and encourage others to join us in supporting those most vulnerable, especially during challenging times.”

Landry said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to combating hunger and ensuring access to healthy food for children, seniors, and families.

“The Love One Louisiana Foundation is proud to partner with FMOL Health to support food banks across Louisiana,” Landry said. “Together, we’re helping meet a real and urgent need by making sure families have access to the food and resources they deserve.”

In Mississippi, the $100,000 donation will be directed to Stewpot Community Services, a vital partner in the fight against hunger. Stewpot serves approximately 700 underserved individuals each month through its pantry, Community Kitchen, and Meals on Wheels program for homebound seniors.
