Melissa remains a powerful Category 2 hurricane as it leaves the Bahamas. It will have an opportunity to strengthen through the day today, potentially reaching major status prior to affecting Bermuda Friday. From there, it will weaken as it heads into open Atlantic waters.
Our next rain chance comes Saturday evening and overnight as a quick-moving system passes through the area. Generally, it will just be passing showers and maybe a rumble of thunder. Severe weather is not expected. Sunday, drier weather returns to Acadiana with mild temperatures heading into next week.
