JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Many Americans are unhappy with the ongoing government shutdown. With the longest shutdown spanning 35 days, the current shutdown is in Day 28.

“I’m a former federal employee, and I’ve been through several shutdowns and missed my paycheck. I think it’s horrible what’s going on, as far as people who need to get their food,” said one Mississippian.

“And it doesn’t matter whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican. They all should be able to work together to keep the government open without people losing their jobs or their benefits,” said another Mississippian.

The U.S. Senate has yet to pass a bill that would fund the government. With both sides not willing to budge, citizens said it’s time to reopen because the American people are suffering. They hope a deal can be reached.

The U.S. Senate is set to reconvene on October 29, 2025.
