Mountain snow showers diminish as a clear and cold night sets in

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Monday, Utah! After some morning northern mountain snow and valley rain showers, things have started to dry out and clear up across Utah.

Areas of central and southern Utah will enjoy plenty of sunshine on Monday afternoon. Highs will only be in the upper 40s to lower 50s across northern Utah and in the 60s and 70s for southern Utah.

The next weather maker for Tuesday into midweek will be a big ridge of high pressure that will settle over Utah. This will bring the famous “Inversion season” back to the Wasatch Front. This will lead to areas of thick haze being trapped over the valleys, but blue skies will be common for higher elevations and areas outside of the valley. The inversion will likely stick around through midweek, leading to some areas of moderate air quality.

A weak front will move by to our north on Thursday, bringing a minor wind shift, and will potentially help to mix up the air a bit to squash the inversion. This system will move through with dry weather with no rain or snow expected at this time.

As the ridge of high pressure slides east, we should see a steady warming trend of a few degrees each day. Highs will rebound back into the 60s by this weekend with highs remaining in the 70s for the next week across SW Utah.

Halloween evening looks fantastic for the Beehive state. Our Friday evening will feature mostly clear skies with temperatures going from the 70s into the 60s for southern Utah and temps falling from the 50s into the 40s across northern Utah. No issues with precipitation or wind are expected at this time.

Don’t forget this weekend is the time when we “fall back” with our clocks. Remember to set those clocks back an hour before you head to bed Saturday night. Daylight Saving Time officially ends Sunday morning at 2AM.
