(PINPOINT WEATHER) — We’re starting the workweek with a damp, chilly morning across the region. Temperatures are sitting in the upper 40s and low 50s, and light rain is already falling in some spots. It’s one of those mornings where the umbrella is more than just a backup plan.
Monday afternoon, expect steady rain and drizzle with highs struggling to reach the mid-50s in Charlotte. Winds will be breezy out of the northeast, and it’ll feel cooler than the thermometer reads. Visibility may drop at times, so take it slow if you’re out and about.
Monday night, the rain continues with occasional heavier pockets. Especially along the I-40 corridor. Temperatures dip into the upper 40s, and the breeze sticks around. It’s a good night to stay in, throw on a hoodie, and let the sound of rain do its thing.

Looking ahead, Tuesday brings more of the same, with light rain tapering off into drizzle. Highs stay in the upper 40s and low 50s, and skies remain overcast. We’ll finally start to dry out by Thursday, with sunshine returning and highs climbing back into the 60s.
Halloween will hit the low 60s and stay dry for trick-or-treaters looking to get their candy.

In our mountain counties, Monday is wet and chilly. Highs will top out in the 40s, and rain will be steady through the day. Overnight lows fall to near 40, and fog may settle in across higher elevations. Rain chances stick around through midweek, but leaf color is still hanging on in some spots.
In the tropics, Hurricane Melissa has intensified into a powerful Category 4 storm with winds near 150 mph. The storm is slowly approaching Jamaica and is expected to make landfall late Monday night or early Tuesday. Melissa is now a Category 5 hurricane, bringing catastrophic flooding, landslides, and storm surge to Jamaica, Haiti, and eastern Cuba. While the U.S. mainland is not in the path, the impacts across the Caribbean are expected to be severe and long-lasting.
Melissa looks to weaken gradually and track north and east towards the island of Bermuda as we head into the second half of the work week.
