10 kayakers rescued on Tybee Island Saturday

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) — Tybee Island Fire Rescue (TIFR) responded to a 911 call from Litte Tybee Island on Saturday and rescued 10 kayakers who had been stranded due to deteriorating weather conditions.

The rescue boat safely transported all individuals back to shore safely without incident.

TIFR said it is believed that strong north winds and outgoing tidal currents were the contributing factors to the incident.

As a reminder, TIFR said to always check weather conditions, understand the wind direction and have a safety plan with proper equipment before going out on the water.
