Overnight storms bring another chance of severe weather
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Another round of strong and severe storms is possible overnight. A line of storms will move through after midnight bringing the potential of damaging wind gusts, tornadoes, and flooding. The storms will push east of the area by early Sunday morning.
Sunday will begin with quiet weather as drier air wraps in. Temperatures will be in the 70s before warming into the lower 80s during the afternoon hours. A few showers will be possible later in the day after 2 p.m.

A quick check of the tropics shows that Melissa is rapidly intensifying and is now a Category 2 hurricane. It will likely become a major hurricane overnight as it sets its sights on Jamaica. This will likely be one of the strongest hurricanes to hit Jamaica as it battles nearly three days of destructive winds and flooding rains before Melissa pulls to the north and brings significant impacts to eastern Cuba and the Bahamas.

Locally, we will see fairly similar weather Monday and Tuesday before a strong cold front brings the chilliest temperatures we have seen thus far this year. Tuesday will see a few showers with the frontal passage. Behind the front, morning temperatures will drop into the 40s across Acadiana and afternoons will see bright sunshine and 60s for highs through the end of the week. Next weekend, warmer and more humid air returns to Acadiana.
