Landry signs emergency declaration for SNAP funding
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Just days after Governor Jeff Landry announced that Louisianans enrolled in the SNAP program would not receive benefits in November due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, he is changing course and issuing an emergency order.

On Friday morning, the governor’s office issued a statement announcing that he signed an emergency order that would “help fund SNAP benefits for the elderly, disabled, and children in our State who have been abandoned by Congressional Democrats.”

He went on to say that we should not allow the most vulnerable in our state to go hungry because Congress failed to reopen the federal government.

“My administration has created over 70,000 new job opportunities in Louisiana since I took office. Wages are on the rise, and our economic outlook has never looked better. This is how we move people from dependence to independence. I urge those who are able-bodied to continue to strive to get off SNAP and similar programs,” he continued, saying the programs are unreliable.
