According to the District Attorney Tony Clayton, 30-year-old Marian Margaret Williams was indicted by a Pointe Coupee Parish grand jury on second-degree murder. She was accused of killing Shaniqua Smith, 24,
Investigators said Smith’s body was found outside their trailer on Olinde Street. Williams fled the area but left her cell phone and ID at the scene. She turned herself in about a month later.
Williams pleaded guilty to manslaughter and obstruction of justice. She was sentenced to 40 years for manslaughter and 10 years for the obstruction charge, for a total of 50 years.
“This is another sad case of gun violence destroying lives,” said District Attorney Tony Clayton. “I have said we will not tolerate it and will pursue harsh penalties for gun violence. People need to think before they pull that trigger.”
