Northeast Kansas highway may expand from two lanes to four lanes

JACKSON COUNTY (KSNT) – Kansas transportation officials are exploring new way to improve a highway in the northeast part of the state, including adding new lanes onto it for travelers.

The Kansas Department of Transportation is set to hold an open house discussion in early November to give locals a chance to learn about possible improvements in the works for U.S. 75 Highway in Jackson and Brown Counties. People are invited to attend the meeting and learn more about the U.S. 75 Expansion Study and provide feedback.

KDOT‘s study is aimed at exploring ways to improve operations on U.S. 75 Highway from Holton to K-20 in Brown County. The study will also evaluate the possibility of expanding this stretch of the highway from two lanes to four lanes of traffic.

Kate Craft with KDOT said the study is currently in its discovery phase and has yet to receive funds for construction. No timelines is set yet for when the expansion project will occur.

The open house meeting is set for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6 at Jackson Heights High School located at 12719 266th Road in Holton. People can learn more about the U.S. 75 Expansion Study by clicking here.
