Man dies in Vermilion Parish crash while fleeing police, officials say

VERMILION PARISH, La. (KLFY) — A man has died in Vermilion Parish after allegedly attempting to flee police.

On Oct. 22, shortly after 9:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on La.14 near Fore Road. The crash claimed the life of Johnathan Taylor, 49, of Abbeville.

According to authorities, Taylor was allegedly fleeing from the Kaplan Police Department following an attempted traffic stop. For reasons still under investigation, Taylor’s vehicle failed to negotiate a right curve, left the roadway, struck multiple trees and overturned.

Officials said Taylor was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

A standard toxicology sample was collected from Taylor and submitted for analysis. Police are investigating the crash.
