LAFAYETTE, La. (
KLFY) — A Lafayette native is making a name for himself in the style and fashion industry.
From modeling and designing custom pieces, to being recognized by Beyonce, Toz Sam has emerged as a top twenty finalist in Elton John’s Style Icon Fashion Competition.
The competition not only offers Sam the chance to showcase his unique fashion sense but puts him in the running to be featured in Flaunt Magazine, tickets to Versace’s show in Milan, and a chance to win $20,000 all while supporting the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Voting for the competition is open until Dec. 11, with the winner set to be announced on Dec. 26.
“For me, fashion is a feeling, and it is a language that I understand,” Sam said.
Sam’s journey into fashion began with his early inspiration from the performing and creative arts. His style, which he describes as elevated and intentional, was developed through studying red carpet shows, awards shows and fashion magazines.
Initially hesitant to compete, Sam’s excitement grew when he learned that Elton John was behind the competition.
“And when I saw that Elton John was the creator of this, I was like, ‘Wait a minute, hold on.’ Let me just, try to at least make Sir Elton John proud in this moment,” he said.
Sam expressed his honor in being part of the competition, highlighting its charitable aspect.
“So, this is a great charity event that I’m honored to be a part of,” said. “I want to be a part of something that will help the community in any way.”
Toz credits his supporters for his success.
“I could dress as great as I want to, but it’s the people that carry you to the top,” said Sam. “So, shout out to those from Lafayette who’ve been holding me down, as well as in L.A. and various cities.”
