Connecticut Airport Authority: Avelo Airlines stops services at Bradley International Airport

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WTNH) — Avelo Airlines has pulled out of Bradley International Airport, according to the Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA).

The CAA said in a statement released Thursday that it is disappointed by Avelo’s decision, particularly the cancellation of the state’s only nonstop service to Montego Bay, Jamaica. They called the decision “inexplicable.”

Bradley Airport told News 8 the airline had three flights directly from Connecticut: to Punta Cana, Cancun and Montego Bay.

“The CAA is puzzled why Avelo claims to have been uniquely unsuccessful at BDL despite those significant advantages and the success enjoyed by many other carriers at the airport during the same timeframe,” the CAA’s statement said. “The cancellation of these services and Avelo’s stated reasoning for doing so also continues a disturbing trend of the airline misrepresenting facts and trying to dodge reasonable fees that other airlines pay as a regular course of business.”

The CAA continued by saying that they “understand Avelo’s financial distress and the impacts of public backlash related to its other business decisions, but the CAA cannot relieve Avelo of its financial commitments after investing so much in the airline’s success.”
