BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Sunshine and lower humidity return for Thursday. The next round of rain will move in this weekend.

TONIGHT: Skies will be mainly clear along with calm winds. That will allow for temperatures to drop steadily overnight, with most bottoming out in the upper 40s and low 50s. It will be a bit of a chilly start Thursday morning.

THURSDAY: You will want a light jacket to start the day off, but will no longer need it beyond the morning hours. Skies will be mostly sunny again with highs around 80.

BEYOND: An onshore flow will return by Friday, raising moisture levels, so it will begin to feel more muggy once again. We will stay dry to round out the workweek, but rain chances will return again this weekend as our next storm system moves in. There will be isolated to scattered showers and storms around on Saturday, with rain becoming more widespread Sunday, especially in the morning hours. Rain may be heavy at times, so 1-3 inches of rainfall is possible across south Louisiana, with locally higher amounts expected. A strong storm or two can’t be ruled out either.

Tropical Storm Melissa has formed in the eastern Caribbean. Melissa will gradually strengthen into a hurricane by the weekend, but slow down as well. This means a prolonged period of impacts for the northern Caribbean Islands. Significant impacts are expected there. This storm poses no threat to the Gulf Coast.
