A twist at every turn in unsolved 2014 killing in Treme
The crime scene was at the corner of North Roman and St. Ann streets. Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Natalie Simsick. She’d been shot to death.
The following January, police announced that they were searching for a woman named April Davis. Police called her a ‘Person of Interest’ in the case. They said she was not wanted to face charges but may have information about what happened.
Police never had the opportunity to interview Davis.
On Sept. 11, 2015, police were called to a crime scene near the corner of North Derbigny and Bayou Road. That’s where, on the sidewalk, they found the body of another woman who’d been shot to death.
That second crime scene was about six blocks away from where Simsick’s body was discovered. And the victim found on the sidewalk was Davis, the person of interest in Simsick’s death.
In the years that followed, the investigation slowed. But correspondence from police to Simsick’s family members only added to the mystery by saying that Davis was considered, at least at some point, to be a suspect in the case. But police also said that male DNA evidence was also found at the Simsick crime scene.
Simsick’s murder remains unsolved, and the NOPD has not announced any arrests in Davis’ death. Also, police have not said whether the two shootings are connected.
