ALGIERS, La. (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal double shooting in Algiers Wednesday, Oct. 22.

According to NOPD officers, around 7:49 a.m. NOPD officers responded to the 1800 block of Jo Ann Place on reports of shots fired in the area.

Responding officer arrived to find a 16-year-old girl and a 20-yer-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds. The girl was pronounced dead on the scene while the man was taken to a hospital where he later died.

NOPD officers say the incident is not a threat to the public.

No further details are available at this time. The NOPD is in the process of gathering evidence and information to determine a possible suspect and motive.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release both victims identities after an autopsy is done and the families are notified.
