‘Signs of foul play’: Welfare check leads to homicide investigation in NC

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (WJZY) — A man was found dead in Caldwell County after a welfare check at his home in Catawba County, according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday, October 21, deputies responded to a welfare check at a residence on Swinging Bridge Road, which is owned by David Mize. When no one answered the door, they made entry into the home.

Officials said no one was inside the home, but they did see signs of foul play, which initiated an investigation. That investigation led deputies to a location in Caldwell County where they found Mize’s body.

The NC SBI and Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office are assisting investigators in Catawba County on this investigation.
