'Cottonwood Heights-ro': Korean city names street after a Utah town
“Cottonwood Heights-ro” stretches over a kilometer through Yeonsu-gu near the University of Utah Asia Campus in Incheon, Korea. The honorary road was named after the Utah city to symbolize its friendship between the sister cities.
“The University of Utah Asia Campus is that bridge between Cottonwood Heights and Yeonsu-gu,” said Cottonwood Heights Mayor Mike Weichers.
On Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, Mayor Weichers, along with Councilman Matt Holton, visited the campus where they met with students and faculty. Cottonwood Heights city planners are part of a collaboration with students at the campus to design real-world urban design projects.
“It’s amazing to see how education can create friendships that reach across oceans,” Mayor Weichers added.
The University of Utah says the story of Cottonwood Heights-ro symbolizes how the school is “turning learning into impact, from the Wasatch Mountains to the shores of Incheon Bay.”
