Wyoming State Capitol evacuated for "suspect IED" investigation
CHEYENNE, WY (ABC4) — The Wyoming State Capitol Building was evacuated this morning for an investigation of a “suspect IED.” The public is still being asked to avoid the area.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), a multi-agency precautionary response is underway at the Capitol Building. WHP is responding alongside the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming DCI, Cheyenne Police Department, Joint EOD Team, and federal agencies.
Initially, 21st Street to 27th Street were closed between Carey Avenue and Central Avenue. Since then, all streets have reopened. This closure was precautionary and intended to keep the public safe.
The Wyoming Capitol is closed for the rest of the day, and the WHP is still asking the public to avoid the Capitol as the investigation continues.
