BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Oct. 20, 2025) — A 64-year-old woman arrested Friday in Seminary Park who died shortly after arriving at the Monroe County Jail, had a valid Monroe County arrest warrant for two counts of criminal trespass (Class A misdemeanor) and one count of public nudity (Class A misdemeanor), the Bloomington Police Department said Monday evening.
A pathologist told investigators after a Monday autopsy that the death appears to be from natural causes, but a final ruling will await toxicology results according to BPD Capt. Ryan Pedigo. Toxicology results can take weeks.
The Monroe County Coroner has not released the woman’s name pending notification of next of kin as of Monday afternoon.
Police said officers recognized the woman in Seminary Park around 11:25 a.m. Friday as having an active arrest warrant. The warrant was confirmed by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and the woman was handcuffed without incident and taken to the jail to be remanded into custody.
While in the jail’s sally port awaiting transfer to jail staff, the woman reported feeling hot and her condition declined rapidly, police said. An ambulance was requested at 12:07 p.m. She became unresponsive before medics arrived, and officers reported at 12:16 p.m. that CPR was in progress. Officers also administered Narcan. She was pronounced dead in the sally port.
The Monroe County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death after toxicology testing. Officers present in the sally port were wearing body-worn cameras, according to BPD. The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information was available Monday.
