Midnight fire in Houma leaves one dead, one injured

HOUMA, La. (WGNO) — A Houma housefire is under investigation after it claimed the life of one man and injured another.

The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal reported the incident happened on Sunday, Oct. 19 in the 1100 block of Grinage Street.

The Houma Fire Department was alerted of the blaze around 12 a.m.

As a result, a 70-year-old man was killed but his brother suffered “serious fire-related injuries” and was taken to University Medical Center in New Orleans for treatment. An update on his condition is was not released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation as it is unknown if the house had working smoke detectors.

“We urge every Louisiana resident to ensure their homes are protected with working smoke alarms,” said DPS Principal Assistant Chief Bryan J. Adams.
