SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)- The Philadelphia Center was established thirty six years ago because someone or some group had to step up to help people living with HIV. The next step was to prevent the spread of HIV.

They now offer support services for people living with HIV, as well as STI testing and provide PrEP to those who want it. Their mission is to empower people living with HIV, eliminate new HIV transmissions and enhance community wellness.

Most of their funding comes from the federal government and according to Hersey Krippendorf their director of development those funds are not secure. When asked if she was scare, she said, “Yes, everyday. We’re a phone call away or an email away from losing funding.” She went on to say if that happened some tough decisions would need to be made.

Events like The Annual Auction Against AIDS is a very important fundraiser. They spend the better part of year planning each one. This years event will be held Saturday November 1st at Sam’s Town Casino. This years theme is inspired by 1920’s Harlem speakeasies and jazz halls, this immersive experience will blend music, art and hope with a masquerade theme for added mystery and elegance. Tickets can be purchased at thephiladelphiacenter.org.
